Behind My Back
“Behind My Back” Rich in atmosphere and restraint, the work explores the relationship between the figure and fabric through softened edges, controlled tonal shifts, and luminous layers of oil paint.
At the centre of the composition, a standing nude figure gathers translucent white drapery behind her body. The gesture feels both intimate and withheld, as though caught in a private moment between concealment and release. Cascading folds of sheer fabric surround the figure, diffusing light across the surface of the painting and creating subtle passages of transparency against warm flesh tones.
Painted in full colour, the work reflects Carly’s evolving approach to realism, where observation becomes less about exact detail and more about atmosphere, weight, and sensation. Influenced by her time studying in Florence, the painting places greater emphasis on softness, temperature, and the movement of light through material.
The restrained palette and cropped framing create a sense of closeness, allowing the viewer to focus on gesture, texture, and the emotional tone carried within the pose.
Currently stretched and ready to hang, the artwork will be carefully removed from its stretcher and rolled into a tube for international delivery unless purchased within Australia, where stretched delivery may be arranged.
